How to get ash blonde hair at home

The much requested video is up!

Well it has been up for a while now… But it is hard to keep my blog up to date with my youtube! Seeing as I upload new videos 2 times a week which filming and editing alone takes up a full day or 2! Then to write an entire blog post about it! OMG!ย Craziness!
But anyways it is up! And now I am finally writing the blog post to go along with it! Are you ready to watch an learn the 3 step process I conduct on my hair to get it to the lovely color of blonde that it is?!
I hope you are ready! It is quite the process…
I you have been watching my videos, you probably have realized my hair shows as an ultra ashy/greyish blonde that kind looks like sand… or just greyish ๐Ÿ˜›
My natural hair color is medium brown but I used to be a blonde up until the age of 4 or 5 then it slowly started turning brown. I have always wanted to be blonde and it took me many years to finally be a “good” blonde.
Back in high school, every summer I would attempt to go blonde. I would always go to my hair stylist who I had since I was young and ask her to give my high lights or give me ย ash blonde hair. She would refuse to go full blonde and always give me highlights.
The problem was that she… wasn’t very good. It took me 4 years of trying with her to realize this.
She was an amazing colorist but not with makingย brunettesย blonde. She could correct color and enhance natural colors like a pro… But not once did she give me good blonde.
It was frustrating. I would only like my highlights for 1 month before I would notice how rusty and yellowish they were. So I started to enhance them on my own. I would get close to the color I desired but would end up killing my hair and just have to dye it back to brown. I would ask my stylist to please use a toner or tone my hair and she wouldn’t want to for some unknown reason!!! >.<
After many attempts and mistakes and research I came across the fool proof way for myself to get the perfect blonde with my stubborn hair that always wanted to turn orangey.
And here is my 3 step process!

*Photo of the final step in my full 3 step process*
  1. I begin by bleaching my hair. Since I don’t want to kill my hair but lift it to the desired level of blonde. I use bleaching powder and a level 20 peroxide. Level 20 only lifts 2 shades but I leave it in for double the time so I get 4 levels of lift with half the damage. While my hair is bleaching I put a processing cap over it to help it process moreย efficiently. After 1 hour I remove the cap and gently shower all the bleach out of my hair and let it air dry.
  2. After my hair is dry I continue to step 2. I then put a toning hair color in my hair. Or, the shad of blonde I want my hair to be. Since all warm shades of blonde look bad on me, I always use an ash color. I mix a level 10 peroxide in with the dye and leave it on for the recommended time. Level 10 does not lift, it places color which is why it is used to dyes only. Once my hair is covers ย in dye and once again place the processing cap on and wait. After the time is up I once again shower all the dye out and wait for my hair to dry.
  3. Step 3 varies on how I feel time wise. For my quick version. I take a semi-permanent purple hair dye and mix it with half conditioner. While I am still in the shower from step 2, after all the previous dye is washed out I then place the half & half mixture of purple dye and conditioner into my hair and let it sit for 3-5 minutes in my rinsed out damp hair while still in the shower. And I continue withย washingย my body, shaving and all that good stuff while I wait. BUT for the longer most effective way. I let my hair dry then mix 1 part purple dye with 2 parts conditioner so I have a more pastel looking mixture then apply it to my hair like I would a normal hair dye and let it sit for 30-40 minutes or until I like how ashy it looks. Then I continue to shower for the 3rd time ๐Ÿ˜›
ย
And that is my entire process! I hope you understood it! If not… watch the video!!! The video is not me dying my full hair because well… my hair is already the desired color! So it is me doing my roots, which is the exact same routine, only focused on my roots ๐Ÿ™‚
I do a lot for my hair color but I have the time and in my opinion it very much so is worth it! ๐Ÿ™‚

Now some of you may think that this much processing in one day is horrible for my hair…. but that is wrong. My hair is as healthy as it is when it is brown. Since I bleach my hair the gentlest way possible and use conditioner in my toning. Of course going from blonde to brunette is going to cause SOME damage. After you dye your whole head of hair blonde it is important you trim your ends after once you have obtained your desired color. This removes the damaged ends keeping hair healthy!
I also do my purple toning step ever 2 weeks but with a lot of conditioners and also treatments mixed in and then I let it sit in my hair for 1 hour with not much purple in it! This refreshes my ashy color while also treating my hair at the same time! ๐Ÿ™‚ Amazing!
For an at home way to do your own hair, this is the best most affordable way I have figured out for me ๐Ÿ™‚ So if you hate spending hundreds at hair salons for unsatisfactory blonde results then give my routine a try! ๐Ÿ™‚
GOOD LUCK! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi I am thinking about dying my own brown hair blonde soon…and I have never dyed my hair on my own so I had a few questions…how much bleaching powder and peroxide do you use for your whole hair and also how much toner and peroxide? Like what’s the measurement?
Also I had my hair professionally dyed blonde and over time the color behind to fade, what do you do when it starts to fade to take it back to blonde? And lastly…what products do you use? Your hair is do beautiful…
I know this is kinda a old post but I really hope you respond!!!! I would really appreciate it ๐Ÿ™‚

No, I tried this and it does not work. You have to do them separately as described in the tutorial ๐Ÿ˜› Good luck!

Hi! Thanks for the information! What ash blonde dye do you use? Do you have brand preferences of dye, bleach, and peroxides?
