When we think of soaps, we often think of the type we use in the shower on our body, rarely considering to use a bar soap on our faces. However, there actually are bar soaps you can actually use on the facial skin that are specifically designed to be gentle yet effective.

Today, I’ll be sharing my personal in-depth review and first impression experience with this Jungle Botanics Ecru Clay Soap.

Ecru Clay Soap First Impression Review

This clay soap is unique in itself as it is handcrafted to be the right combination of cleansing and oil control for the facial area without overly drying out the skin. This soap for the face is handmade with 17.5% Amazonian Kaolin Clay, making it ideal for those with oily skin and acne as this clay works to deeply cleanse and purify the pores.

So why should I use this soap?

Product Claims

The Jungle Botanics Ecru Clay Soap claims to:

  • Clarify pores
  • Control excess oil
  • Improves uneven skin tone
  • Helps fight acne and clogged pores

Based on the claims, it’s rather clear to see that the Ecru Clay Soap is most ideal for those with oily skin which is prone to acne and clogged pores. As this is just a soap, I personally would not expect grand results in terms of improving uneven skin tones.

Okay, so what makes it work?

On thing I love about this ingredients list is the amount of good oils within it! Even if you have oily skin, using oils in your skincare is essential to balance out you natural skin oils, helping to reduce oil production throughout the day!

Aside from that, I love the simple ingredients list without harsh chemicals or perfumes.

There really is nothing bad in it!

To prove that, a quick cosDNA analysis of the ingredients list reveals it is completely safe to use on the skin. Do keep in mind, the Kaolin Clay helps stop any oils from potentially causing acne by clogging the pores.

Packaging & Texture

The clay soap comes in a lovely eco friendly box with a complimentary 100% naturally sourced linen wash cloth that has a dual function as a case for the face soap. Aside from the lovely natural packaging, this bar soap is also cruelty free and vegan friendly!

What does it feel like?

Texture wise, the Jungle Botanics Ecru Clay Soap has a rather soft texture that feels smooth on the skin when it becomes wet with water. When making a lather between your hands, the bubbles are quite dense to the touch, which shows how nourishing this oil control soap is!

Experience & results

When I first used the clay soap to wash my face, I noticed it was a little similar to one of my all time favorite bar soaps for the face, the Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Charcoal Soap. The only difference being the texture of the Ecru Clay Soap felt more smooth in comparison.

How did I use it?

Since I have dry, dehydrated combination skin, I only used this soap at night as my second cleansing step after using a cleansing oil to remove my makeup. However, I did use it in the morning a few times and this is what happened.

In the morning I tried using this ecru clay soap to wash my face. After cleansing my dry skin felt extremely tight and uncomfortable for the remainder of the day even when using my usual dry skin care routine. I only used it two mornings before realizing this soap is too much for my skin in the mornings.

During the night time, I used this soap after using my cleansing oil to second cleanse. In this instance, this clay soap was absolute perfection for me! It perfectly removed any remaining cleansing oil from my skin leaving my skin perfectly clean without feeling horribly dry and tight.

I used it with the linen cloth to wipe away the the soap and any remaining cleansing oil. The linen cloth was soft, gentle and excellent at wiping away my makeup.

What were my results?

I have been using this soap for 3 weeks now every night of the week to wash away my makeup at the end of the day.

I have noticed my pores seem tighter, I have had less breakouts around my hairlines where I tend to experience clogging, and blackheads form a little more slowly on my nose where I always get blackheads on a regular basis.

Overall first impression

This ecru clay soap was too drying to me to use morning and night as someone with dry skin. However, using it every single night after oil cleansing was perfect for me!

I fully recommend this soap!

Even though it was drying for me, it still has helped reduce my amount of clogged pores and blackheads! If you have oily skin, this is a must for you!

With that said, I didn’t see any noticeable changes in my skin in terms of uneven skin tone improvement, but then again, I didn’t expect to see any results in that area.
