For the past 4 years, cleansing oil has been the most important step of my evening skincare routine. But with the use of cleansing oils comes the importance of proper removal and usage. There are a few ways you can correctly remove a cleansing oil from the skin, as proper removal is dependant upon your skin type, when you’re using the cleansing oil and what you’re using the cleansing oil to remove.
As someone who has used cleansing oils and different removal methods of a few years now, today I’ll be sharing my personal experience and review on the Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil and its newest counterpart, the Klairs Gentle Black Cleansing Puff.

The Klairs Gentle Black Cleansing Puff
As mentioned above, there are multiple ways you can remove a cleansing oil from the skin.
- Double Cleansing
(massage cleansing oil into dry skin, rinse with warm water then proceed to cleanse the face with a foam cleanser.) - Washcloth
(massage cleansing oil into dry skin, soak a washcloth in warm water and wipe away the cleansing oil until fully removed.) - Cotton Pad
(dampen a cotton pad and apply 1-2 pumps of cleansing oil to the pad, wipe over the skin to remove dirt and makeup. Repeat the process if necessary.) - Cleansing Puff/Sponge
(massage cleansing oil into dry skin, soak a cleansing puff/sponge in warm water, wipe the puff over the skin until all the cleansing oil is removed.)
These above methods all work great to effectively remove excess cleansing oil from the skin, yet all have their own effects and benefits depending on the situations in which they are used. For myself, I personally use methods 1, 2, and most preferably 4.
Over the years, the 4th has become my favorite due to the convenience and mess-free reusable method it provides. Which is why I was excited that Klairs finally launched their cleansing puff to accompany the Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil! So let’s take a closer look at the newest addition to the Klairs Gentle Black line.
Product Claims
The Klairs Gentle Black Cleansing Puff claims to:
- Perfectly Cleanse Skin
- Gentle Exfoliation of Waste
- Multi-Usage with cleansing Oils, Facial Soap, and Foam Cleansers
Because this is a simple product, the claims are fairly standard and short. However, the claims it does have are everything and more for a girl like me who loves a good cleansing puff.
Texture & Usage
When first opening the Klairs Gentle Black Cleansing Puff from its containing package, I noticed it came in a two-layer package, one for commercial and the other to retain moisture in the sponge, which Klairs states it is from the manufacturing process. As many cleansing puffs and sponges are known to come packaged like this, it was no surprise for me.
Upon touching, the puff was very dense and porous, which in my opinion could be considered medium in size. Unlike a Konjac sponge, the Klairs Gentle Black Cleansing Puff is made solely of PVA, resulting in a less natural porous ratio. For me, this is something I prefer as you can easily get a cleansing puff that better suits your exfoliating needs. In my experience, a Konjac sponge has never provided me with the amount of exfoliating I want from puffs.
When used on my skin, I immediately felt a sense of “ah yes, this is perfect”. The puff did not overly expand when wet, it felt gentle but slightly rough in texture on the face, which quickly and effectively removed the cleansing oil from my skin in almost one swipe. The roughness in texture was just the right amount to wipe away my dead skin cells and flakes without being harsh. The cleansing puff removed the Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil and dead skin quickly with minimal effort involved. Even while removing makeup with cleansing oil, the puff did not falter in effectiveness.
Overall Opinion
I now have been using the Klairs Gentle Black Cleansing Puff every night in my evening skincare routine to gently cleanse and exfoliate my skin. It has had no negative effects on my skin even while using it every night. If anything, it has improved my skin as I have been experiencing less clogged pores and blackheads since I started using it a month ago!
All in all, I am in love with this puff and highly recommend it based on my own experience!
Alongside Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil
As a cleansing oil I have previously reviewed, I can easily say this has been one of my favorite oils for a few years now. I have always loved its natural based formula as it does not contain mineral or coconut oil and contains ingredients my skin loves such as Jojoba Oil. As someone with combination dry skin, I need a cleansing oil that not only removes excess oil and waste from my skin, but also adds nourishment. The Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil does just that without being too heavy.
On its own, the oil does need a little help when it comes to removal. Due to its minimal and natural based formula, this cleansing oil can have a hard time being removed with just water alone. However, in my personal opinion, no cleansing oil should be removed with just water. For myself, I have always removed cleansing oils in at least one of the removal methods I previously mentioned in the beginning portion of this review. For myself, I have always removed this cleansing oil with a tool or the method of double cleansing.
In Combination, The Perfect Makeup Remover
When this cleansing oil is used with the Klairs Gentle Black Cleansing Puff, it comes off in almost one swipe. Not only alone but also with makeup, the combo of these two products make the perfect makeup removing duo! Personally, I always find myself reaching for my Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil as well as the Klairs Gentle Black Cleansing Puff every night both the simply cleanse my skin and also remove all my makeup! Makeup literally melts away from my skin and wipes off in one swipe with this cleansing combo. It simply is the perfect evening cleansing routine for any girl who is looking for the perfect cleansing routine that doesn’t strip the skin.

Warning
After using my puff for a few weeks, I thought it would be wise to sanitize it. I used rubbing alcohol on the puff and to my shock, the alcohol began to melt the puff, causing it to lose its shape and texture. So learn from my mistakes and DO NOT use rubbing alcohol to sanitize your cleansing puff! You will regret it as I do.
