GOING ASH BLONDE | HOW TO REMOVE OMBRE

So, you went ahead and got ombre hair, but now you want to be full blonde or go back to full blonde. You now have this issue where half your hair is either dyed both blonde or brown or just your ends are dyed blonde. So we need to match the top to the bottom an d and such. So you may be thinking, “Where do you begin!?”.

Like most of us cheap people, you are probably here because you don’t want to pay the hefty price for a salon dye job that will most likely not turn out how you wanted it to. So we are just going to go ahead and do it ourselves!

Luckily for you! I filmed a tutorials on how to do this tough task and I also wrote down the written directions on products used!

PRODUCTS USED IN THE VIDEO

= Ion Level 20 Peroxide
= Ion Ammonia Free Bleach Powder
= Ion Level 10 Peroxide
= Ion Cream Color Dark Ash Blonde
= Ion Cream Color Medium Ash Blonde
= Ion Color Brilliance Semi-Permanent Color Lavender
= Maine n Tail Conditioner Color Protect
= Tin Foils

NOTE: This dye method and products will give you a natural ash blonde color, if you want a super ash blonde look check out the link at the end of this post.
Since I live in South Korea, these products all had to be sent to me by my sister. You can get all these products at Sally’s Beauty Supply in Canada, America and Europe(I think). However. Instead of Ion Cream Color in Medium Ash Blonde and Dark Ash Blonde, I personally prefer to use Loreal Superior Preference Box dye in those shades. For my hair, it provides a more true ash color while Ion does not.ย

WRITTEN DIRECTIONS

  1. Combine 1 package of Bleach Powder with Level 20 peroxide 50/50 ratio (half powder/half peroxide). Mix well.
  2. On dry hair with no product in it, apply the bleach started just away from the root area, covering the entire area where your ombre is. Do not apply the bleach mixture to the roots just yet. Do this to everywhere that has ombre.
  3. ย Once all your ombre has bleach on it, apply the bleach to the roots.
  4. Comb the bleach through your hair. Make sure you comb it just enough to blend it into your blonde area.
  5. Wait 30-40 minutes. (my skin is very sensitive lately so I could only wait 30 minutes. I normally would do 40 but my skin could not handle it this time).
  6. Check out bleach, if it is light enough, wash it out with shampoo. It you want it more blonde, leave it in for 5 more minutes and keep checking it until you like it.
  7. After washing, do not apply conditioner. Try your hair with a blow dryer after.
  8. Mix together level 10 peroxide and medium ash blonde at a ratio of 50/50. In a seperate bowl, mix dark ash blonde and level 10 peroxide with a ratio of 50/50 as well.
  9. With a fine tooth comb select hair in a weaving motion, seperate from the rest of the hair, take the weaved out portions and 1 piece of foil and place the hairs onto the foil. Then take the medium ash blonde mixture and paint over the hairs. Apply a good amount of dye. Fold the foil to close.
  10. Take 1 section of hair and fold it over your previous foil. Then, take another section of hair and repeat the weaving action. Repeat these steps around the entire head. (It’s creating highlights)
  11. Once you have finished your foils. Take the Dark ash blonde mixture and apply it the the hair that is not in foils. Then apply it to all your roots.
  12. Once completed, place a bag over your head to help the dye process better. Wait 30-40 minutes then wash hair with shampoo, NO conditioner.
  13. Towel dry your hair very well. Then in a new bowl mix together 1/3 a cup of conditioner and 3 tbs of semi-permanent purple hair dye. (I used lavender but purple is much more effective).
  14. ย Apply the mixture all over your hair, focusing it mainly where we did the bleaching.
  15. Leave in for 30-40 minutes and then rinse your hair.
  16. Do a hair treatment if you want. But now your done!

Hi, I was just wondering – what is the purpose for the semi-permanent purple hair dye? Does it darken/lighten the hair or just add extra shine? Thank you so much!!

It acts as a toner. Removing orange and yellow tones.

Just a question: do you ever use purple shampoos to tone and can you recommend any good ones ? Or do you recommend using semi permanent purple colors instead?

Purple shampoos and conditioners don’t do much for me which is why I prefer using the semi dye and conditioner to tone.
